SOPs for partial reopening of schools, higher educational institutions

The ministry of health and family welfare on 8th September 2020 issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for partial reopening of secondary and senior secondary schools as part of the phase-wise unlocking of activities.
As per the SOP for school reopening, which would be effective from September 21, 2020 the students from Class IX onwards would be allowed to visit schools on “voluntary basis, for taking guidance from their teachers. Online classes will however continue. Those attending school will have to wear masks compulsorily.
Schools outside containment zones only will be allowed to reopen from September 21 for classes IX to XII. Teachers and staff members living in containment zones will also not be allowed to attend school.
Students will be allowed to visit schools subject to written consent of their parents/ guardians and the teacher–student interaction must be organized in a staggered manner.
The ministry further announced that prior to resumption of activities, all work areas intended for teaching/demonstrations etc., including laboratories, other common utility areas shall be sanitized with 1% sodium hypochlorite solution, with particular attention to frequently touched surfaces.
The entry points of schools will have hand sanitisers and thermal screening for temperature. Schools have been asked to draw markings on the floor in staff rooms, office areas, library, mess, cafeteria and design classroom seating accordingly to ensure that physical distancing of 6 feet is maintained.
Morning assembly, sports and any event or activity that could lead to crowding will not be allowed. Sharing of items such as class notes and stationery among students will also be prohibited.
